This design was inspired by the Shetland sweater bought for Richard almost 20 years ago! I translated the traditional knitted patterns to canvas first. Knitting involves pattern made horizontally and vertically, but using tent stitch on canvas, the patterns are created diagonally. Once I was happy with capturing the essence of these very traditional designs, I decided to create a bold centre design and enhance this with the borders to reproduce for an exciting scarf and cushion. I restricted my colour palette to the traditional colours of Shetland knitwear.
